The FAA has released Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2024-21-02, effective December 5, 2024, mandating enhanced inspections for certain Lycoming engine models due to safety concerns surrounding connecting rod bushings. This directive stems from incidents of connecting rod failures, which led to uncontained engine failures and in-flight shutdowns. Affected engines must now undergo rigorous oil inspections and, if necessary, connecting rod bushing replacements to prevent further risks.
